Looking to achieve extreme levels of relaxation and enter a meditative state? Then climb into a float pod filled with Epsom salt water, lay back, and float your way there.

Flotation therapy is not something new (it’s been around for 60+ years), however people are getting more into it now.

Float tanks deprive your senses of sight, sound, smell, and touch, allowing your body, mind, and soul to decompress and recover from the over-stimulation of the everyday.

With each year comes a new wellness oil, herb, leaf, or spice that we collectively embrace as the latest miracle.

In 2018, look for moringa, a plant containing proteins, vitamins, and minerals that is native to Northern India and surrounding countries.

In addition to iron, magnesium, and antioxidants, the leaves are rich in vitamin C, B6, A, and B2 (riboflavin).

It’s used in Asia and Africa to treat various conditions and to combat malnutrition in developing countries.

Because the plant needs to be super clean when turned into powder for us to consume, choose organic certified brands.

Mushroom tea is an earthy, stress-fighting antioxidant that gives us energy, balance, and brain power.

It’s been promoting vitality for thousands of years but has most recently been added to American juice bar and coffee-shop menus.

The health benefits range from increasing energy and libido to promoting a healthy liver and strong bones.

While one yoga studio in London is playing black/death metal during their DoomYinYoga class, other local yoga studios are replacing the pan pipe, Zen meditation melodies with alternative tunes from musicians like Ray LaMontagne, Bon Iver, Coldplay, and the Lumineers.

But it’s not all indie. Some instructors are opting for reggae, hip hop, and electronica, to sun salutate to.

It’s certainly not for everyone, so check in with your studio to hear their take on this and other yoga-centric wellness trends.

From skin care that battles the blue light from laptops to Limitless-like brain-boosting supplements (nootropics), 2018 has the potential to put our bodies and minds into a healthier state of being.

Have you taken notice of any wellness trends so far this year? Which ones can you get into?
