10 Ways to Dress Slimmer Even When You’re Not Feeling It

We get it. But that’s when you turn to your closet for support.

Here are some fashion hacks that’ll help you feel and look your best — bad days be damned!

1. Muffin Top… Be Gone

Almost everyone has experience with unwanted weight gain, but it’s how you deal with the extra pounds that matters.

Don’t try to squeeze into your summer 2017 jeans just yet. You’ll get there.

Go with a larger size for now so you’re comfortable and confident.

2. Give Yourself a Feminine Touch

If you really want to dress slimmer, loosen up with patterned, feminine tops that flow with the wind.

3. Do Your Hair and Makeup

Even though you may not feel your best self, doing your hair and makeup can give you the confidence you need to walk tall in your beautiful body — no matter what you weigh.

Note: The bigger the curls, higher the tease, and longer the lashes, the smaller your body will look.

4. V-Necks for Big Busts and Broad Shoulders

The eye will naturally veer toward the narrow area of the V-neck shirt and give the girl a thinner, column-like effect, explains Sandra Bullock’s stylist in a Health.com article.

We can get on board with that!

But if the V goes too low, wear a tank underneath.

5. Rock a Tailored LBD

We’re all about the easiest and most effective fashion hacks here.

And Scar Jo’s stylist, Nicole Chavez, suggests a classic little black dress when you’re feeling a little puffy. (You probably have one in your closet right now.)

Dress slimmer with a ¾ length sleeve and fitted waist for as slimming, tailored look.

6. Elongate Yourself With Heels

For those of you who love shoes, add some height to your heels to elongate your legs and slim your look down.

Doesn’t matter if they are wedges, boots, or stilettos, go as high as you can while still being able to walk like an adult.

If high heels aren’t for you, a kitten heel with no ankle strap can elongate your look, too.

7. Distract Onlookers With Accessories

Accessories, like big hoop earrings, chunky necklaces, hats, and scarves work as great fashion hacks when you’re not feeling your body shape.

A giant handbag will help you dress slimmer and look stylish.

8. Everything Ruched

Ruched clothing gathers together in a certain spot for a ruffled effect.

If ruching is in the right places, it can help you look thinner, and it can hide your unwanted flaws. (See note about flaws in the conclusion of this article.)

Sport a top or dress that has ruching on the tummy, back, or side.

9. Balance It Out

Avoid being top or bottom heavy by accentuating your smaller features and balancing out your accessories.

If you wear a wide or straight leg pant, consider pairing it with a slimmer fitting shirt and a scarf.

10. Don’t Feel Bad About Shapewear 

To hide the jelly belly, get a shaping bike short. The higher the waist, the better so there are no rolls toward the top of the short.

This will cover the tummy, bum, and thighs for a super slim look.

Certain shapewear has back support integrated into it, so get that type.

Some Additional Tips:

  • Wear a wider belt
  • Lengthen your torso with a long cardigan or duster
  • Go with a wide collar
  • Vertical stripes is still where it’s at
  • Choose all black or other monochromatic color schemes

It goes without saying (but it probably doesn’t) that it really doesn’t matter if you have extra pounds or flaws.

You are beautiful, and flaws are cool.

It’s just that some days, you aren’t feeling it and just don’t want to deal with them.
