My name is Glade Smith, born and raised on a cattle farm, and I am the creator of Family Farm Beef Box.
I would like to share about how my family began to successfully provide fresh, farm-raised beef to folks nationwide, treating them like friends rather than customers (all while trying to save the family farm).
We had no money, no brand, and no customers, and the bank told us we had three months to figure out how to make our farm profitable or we would have to get a job in town.
BUT, what we did have was the knowledge of how to create better-quality beef and an idea of how to bring it to families’ tables with Family Farm Beef Box.
I took a look at the average cost of beef at a chain grocery store and realized I could offer much better quality beef to my local community for the same price.
We stopped selling cattle to the giant food processors and decided to focus on providing high-quality beef at an affordable price to local families and individuals.
Cut out the big guys and everyone else wins… thus Family Farm Beef Box was born!

What inspires you?
I love to make people smile!
Where did the name for your store come from?
I know what it takes to raise the best beef in the country — but I knew I couldnât do it alone.
Thatâs why we arenât âGlade Smith Beefâ — we are Family Farm Beef Box and I simply represent multigenerational farmers who love their land and their animals, and truly care about the customers they provide for.
What is your mantra?
Iâm stubbornly optimistic!
What product(s) are you most excited to offer via Scottâs Marketplace?
The opportunity for folks to have access to a conveniently sized share of homegrown dry-aged beef!
Aside from your business, what are your hobbies?Â
Farming isnât really a job, itâs a lifestyle that I enjoy very much! What I probably enjoy most though, besides that, is simply making people laugh.
Whether itâs my family, friends, customers, or simply someone running a cash register, I canât pass up a chance for good clean humor!
What is your greatest accomplishment so far?
I talked my wife into marrying me… to be honest though she actually lost a bet!
Whatâs on the horizon next for your store?
Farm-raised pork, lamb, and perhaps chicken đ. It’s a fact that homegrown just tastes better than the stuff from the store.
I would know, I eat like a king at my house!
And now I’ve created a system that allows people to access homegrown food with our Family Farm Beef Box.
