Danish Beauty Secrets: How to Score Scandinavian Good Looks

Danish beauty

Move aside, Parisians. Scandinavian ladies are stealing the crown as the makeup, skincare, and haircare muses of the moment.

We’re taking a look at Danish beauty trends to see what we can learn from Denmark’s finest.

1. Focus on skincare.

When you’re working with less makeup, you’ll want to make sure that your skin looks its absolute best.

That’s why Scandinavians put more emphasis on skincare. Danish women take excellent care of their skin with regular facials (primarily performed by themselves at home), and they use natural products that don’t contain harsh chemicals.

Danish Victoria’s Secret model Nina Agdal relies on rosewater to keep her skin properly hydrated.

Fellow Danish supermodel Helena Christensen (the brunette beauty from Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” video and basically one of the prettiest humans to have ever lived,) recently shared her grandmother’s skincare secret: soap and water.

In an interview with Allure magazine, Christensen revealed, “My grandmother has the most beautiful, softest skin. And all she ever uses is water, soap, and Nivea.

Scandinavians are also committed to protecting their skin from the sun’s harsh UV rays by wearing plenty of sunscreen, and they accept the aging process rather than fighting it with surgeries and procedures.

2. Embrace minimal makeup.

The goal of Danish beauty is to look like you’re just naturally exquisite (which you are!).

Scandinavians want their skin to look bare but flawless, and they highlight their features instead of contouring them into a one-size-fits-all bone structure.

They emphasize their eyebrows, smudge some dark brown eyeliner into their lashes, and even out their complexions with a dewy foundation.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Danish women are known for their high cheekbones. Lucky gals.

3. Let your hair down.

If you want to mimic Danish beauty, don’t bother styling your hair. Scandinavian women keep their hair routine simple by letting their locks air-dry, skipping the hot tools, and scheduling regular trims.

Considering I burned not one but two of my knuckles just this week using a curling wand, I think they’re on the right track.

4. Maintain your brows.

Let’s “face” it: Eyebrows are everything. Your arches really do frame your face, and Scandinavian women keep theirs very well-maintained.

Danish eyebrows are kept in their natural shapes, but they’re properly cared for and immaculately groomed.

5. Treat your body right.

Danish women know that beauty is a holistic term. You can have an entire arsenal of bestselling makeup products at your disposal, but no amount of makeup will make you look and feel your best if you don’t take care of yourself.

Scandinavians eat healthy diets with plenty of nutrients for glowing skin from the inside out, and they lead active lifestyles. (Biking is a popular method of transportation in Copenhagen, for example.)
