At 2016’s Met Gala, Claire Danes stepped out of her bus (yep, read that right) in a gorgeous Zac Posen, sky-blue, hand-sewn organza dress.

But something was special about this one-of-a-kind gown. To celebrate this year’s Met Gala theme, “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” the entire dress had fiber optics sewn in so Claire looked like a glow-in-the-dark Cinderella.

While she looked stunning, read on for the life-changing lessons we learned from Claire Danes’ Met Gala dress. (And no, we don’t just mean always trusting Zac Posen, even on his potentially crazy-sounding ideas. Though that’s true, as well.)

1. Dare to Be Different

If somebody asked me to wear a glow-in-the-dark dress, even if it was Zac Posen, I would probably think twice.

Claire, however, rocked it on the red carpet and outshined everyone from Beyoncé to co-chair Taylor Swift.

Her willingness to be different and try something new paid off. When you think about it, that’s often the case in our own lives, too.

Highlight your differences and let your true self shine!

2. It’s Okay to Be in an Awkward Situation

The reason Claire took a bus to get to the Met Gala was because her dress could not fit in a traditional car. While most of the celebrities rolled up in S.U.V.s or town cars, sometimes even the rare UberBLACK making an appearance, Claire had to literally hop on a bus and stand the entire way to the Met.

I’m certain we all know that a bus cruising up to the Met made a statement before Claire even stepped off the first stair.

If you find yourself in an awkward situation, live it up! The awkward situations sometimes become the best memories.

3. Don’t Try to Do Everything Yourself

Claire walked down the entire red carpet with Zac Posen holding one hand and her husband Hugh Dancy holding the other.

While it sounds like a sweet trio, the actual issue was that Claire Danes’ Met Gala dress was so big that she couldn’t walk by herself. Sometimes life feels tough and like you can’t even walk through your current situation.

Don’t feel the need to do it all yourself. Have people close to you that you can lean on for support. Know who the people are in your life that you can trust and don’t be afraid to lean on them when you need some help.

We can promise that life will be a lot more fun when you have others who can share the load.

4. When in Doubt, Wear a Cinderella Dress

Let’s be honest, at the end of the day, we all had at least one second of jealousy when we saw Claire Danes having her Cinderella moment. But the truth is, we can all have our Cinderella moments on a regular basis.

Walk confidently, be kind to one another, support each other, and work through all situations with grace and gumption.

If one day, you’re not feeling like the princess you are, then toss on your Cinderella ball gown and rock it!
